We were left to believe his status was easily reversed after the weekend, when the right manager returned to work.

Um. Perhaps they print the letters in alphabetical order. Since you precede me alphabetically, your letter — I mean the letter to your estate — was presumably printed first, meaning your alleged demise preceded my alleged demise.

Of course, then she died a week later.
