Despite the misdeeds that he has admitted to in his guilty plea, I can tell you that George always wanted to do the best for his constituents. He is not a dirty politician but instead has demonstrated geniuine human flaws and fell to temptaions that can affect any politician. George has already “served his time” by public humiliation and being forced to resign his office and I think that a jail sentence is way too harsh for him.
I think we should leave him be at this point.

I agree. He names what he did wrong, he shows he gets WHY it was wrong, and he sounds ashamed rather than aggrieved. He does keep reminding us of his early clean record, but I think he’s also reminding himself and finding himself wanting in the comparison.
