Yes, he didn&#039;t do homework for the anti-pot column. When he &lt;em&gt;did&lt;/em&gt; do homework, for the documentary, he did a great job.

					<description><![CDATA[Sumac, you&#039;re right -- the &quot;as a doctor&quot; thing was BAD. And I honestly hadn&#039;t pondered that the first anti-pot screed came when he was up for a government job and the current pro-pot editorial comes when he&#039;s selling a tv show. 

But one thing I appreciated in this apology was that he went into specifics about how marijuana research is funded (or not funded, as the case may be) -- it was exactly the opposite of the first piece, in which he accepted the government&#039;s position as perfectly valid medicine.]]></description>

It&#039;s true that his 2009 essay was shameful and inexcusable, but his current confession, although riddled with defensiveness and reservations, is a step in the right direction.  My personal belief is that confession, redemption and forgiveness is always a process, not a one-off or a fait d&#039;accompli.]]></description>
