(However I a.) know who Macklemore is, because I have b.) once watched the video for “Thrift Shop,” so hey, points for me!)

Privilege is so tricky a thing – I yo-yo back and forth on the ick factor of this Tweet – I recognize that Mr. Macklemore was possibly merely opening up what he saw as a venue to discuss the alleged “robbing” of this other rapper. However, I agree – not only does this insult the other people who didn’t get little statues or little phonographs or whatever little gold-plated thingy you get at this award, it has the air of, “Aww, you’re good too. You’ll do better next time,” which is not the face of respect for someone else in your field.

As for the fans – especially since the man responded graciously and, I assume, promptly, his fans should have said, “Well, all right, our man says ‘That’s how it go,’ so we can let it go.” But, since teh interwebs feeds and fattens on knee-jerk faux outrage, probably most of the noise is from people who never even listened to his music.
