I read this piece and frankly, laughed out loud when I got to, “These spirit animals are like past lives – everyone was Cleopatra, never an illiterate wife-beating garlic farmer with a harelip.”

But about that hare lip, the first time around was fine, but upon rereading, it made me uncomfortable, too close to body shaming for a deformity.

I am personally fond of opossums. Just saying that they are adorably ugly. But I don’t have a special relationship with them.
