This reminds me of the Onion article "Wealthy Teen Nearly Experiences Consequences."https://www.theonion.com/wealthy-teen-nearly-experiences-consequence-1819570166
I'm a Christian-raised atheist, but I do believe that forgiveness is great, but it's still supererogatory. Yes, I could mail the good folks at Sorrywatch a free $100 bill, but it's not really mandatory. (At least I hope it's not).

Mr. Gatti is a lucky young man. Not because he's been expelled from two colleges (oh, I would literally vomit my heart onto the floor if he were mine). But because he's white. I know this took place in the great state of Connecticut, but in the same week I had to watch a 15 year-old orphaned black girl get hurled around her classroom for doing nothing, it's a pretty stark comparison. PS The US has yet to apologize.

Had to watch this with the sound down after awhile; I missed the whole mess somehow but remember just how UNFUN drunk people can be. I feel for everyone in the cafe, including students who were uncomfortable and afraid. You can hear it in the nervous laughter. Society is built on such a simple construct, and it is upended so easily.

It horrifies me that he's apparently pushed and shouted at people before. Yikes. Someone, please help this kid, he's going 200 mph toward a brick wall...

On the other hand, the sort of magic wand, "I'm a Christian, I need to forgive," is not like "I'm cut, I have to bleed." Every person walks their own path, even Christians, so I do wish people would quit even a tiny bit trying to speak for allll the people.

Point the second: I worked for the state of California, and we were taught to take people down when they became violent. However, we wouldn't have waited for someone to strike someone more than once.

...which leads to Point the third: this is perhaps churlish of me, but in light of Other Violent News this week, if this guy had been a person of color... yeah. *Sigh* I know. Not the topic. But would he have had a record of assaulting police on a different occasion, and still be enrolled? If he wore a turban, would schoolmates have taken him down if he got too close to the cafe manager? Wouldn't he already be facing multiple charges by now? This incident, if this person were not privileged, wouldn't have had a chance to happen.

Privilege, man. It is beginning to color my worldview, no pun intended.
