Which was followed by an apology (or “apology”) on Fox News. FOX NEWS.

Andy Levy is a commentator on Red Eye with Greg Gutfield. Wikipedia informs me that his personal catchphase is “I apologize for nothing,” which is a reference to Greg Gutfield apologizing under duress to Canada for mocking its army.

Sometimes this kind of non-apology  (which I must point out happened two years ago, but Wheaton just blogged it, and hey, it never gets old) is valid. It calls further attention to what might have been a throwaway (but valid) joke. It benefits from Levy’s deadpan delivery. And it takes the original criticism to a higher level. The non-apologeticness of the apology points out the offensiveness of being asked to apologize for something that does not warrant an apology in the first place. I better stop now. As E.B. White put it, “Analyzing humor is like dissecting a frog. Few people are interested and the frog dies of it.”
