Nerf Herder is best known as the band that did the Buffy the Vampire Slayer theme, among the greatest tv show themes in history. (Click that link to be hypnotized by the opening sequence from all seven seasons.) But writer Meg Nesterov just pointed me to the band’s 1996 song Sorry, which is a DELIGHT: An excellent, escalating, cumulative tale of a bad ex-boyfriend, bad-apology song!
Sorry I showed up at your wedding
Sorry I tried so hard to get in
Sorry I screwed up your picture
Sorry I had sex with your sister.
Apology SO not accepted.
I spotted Mark Hamill (a reference to the band’s name?) and Miguel Ferrer (Robocop corruptible yuppie jerkface, son of José Ferrer and Rosemary Clooney, brother-in-law of Debby Boone). Anyone else?
Trivia time: Today, we know Nerf Herder lead singer Parry Gripp as the composer of Internet meme sensations Nom Nom Nom Nom Nom Nom Nom, Boogie Boogie Hedgehog, Fuzzy Fuzzy Cute Cute, and Dramatic Chipmunk (Hey!) (you probably don’t want to click on any of those) (and before you curse my name, know that Boogie Boogie Hedgehog is going through my own head right now, so I SUFFER TOO) and appeared on the best cartoon on earth, Phineas and Ferb, where he was repeatedly referred to as “Internet sensation Perry Gripp” and sang the superb Backyard Hodgepodge, which he also composed. I am not sorry for sharing this.
Is the “what can I do?” in the refrain referencing “Well, I said I’m sorry, so what’s your damage? It’s over” or do you suppose the question references a genuine request for a suggestion for reparation…?
Yeah. I thought not.
