This morning, Snarly was asked to write a piece for Tablet Magazine, where she is a contributing editor and columnist, about Mark Zuckerberg and apologies. One of Zuck’s talking points, as captured by a photographer in a pic of his notes, was “not who we are.” NO, MARK! NO! That phrase is a particular SorryWatch bugaboo, and it sort of set Snarly off. Read the Zuckerpology analysis here.
I read the Tablet article with dismay – after having tried to watch the Zuckerberg hearings for about 15 minutes yesterday. I am reminded of a comment made by someone I knew in London (a Canadian, but that’s not important I don’t think) in 2010 about Julian Assange after the first few rounds of the most horrendous Wikileaked material: “He’s a nobody, really he’s just a cork bobbing the waves. He does not even know what he’s doing,” said this person with complete sangfroid. I found that comment utterly ridiculous. The ‘Oh poor me I’m just a really smart innocent ingenue’ caper on the part of both Zuckerberg and Assange fail to comfort me. These are two of the most sly, slick, double dealing creatures on the planet. I can’t kid myself.
