Often, when I start to tell telephone solicitors that I won’t send money or give them my password, they hang up.
So rude. They called me, and then they hang up on me? Sometimes I actually need to talk to them, for example to explain that they have called a home, not a business, and so they will never be able to sell me an improved business listing on Google. Can’t explain if they’ve hung up.
So I often start by saying “Please don’t hang up on me.” Occasionally they hang up anyway. More often they let me speak. Sometimes they’re a touch aggrieved at the suggestion that they might hang up on me.
Recently a telephone solicitor called Donovan surprised me.
I really apologize that people are hanging up on you, ma’am. Have an amazing day, okay? I’m sorry.
Nice. That was cheering. It made me feel better about the world. I thanked him. And now I’m making him famous. Donovan! He’s a good man! Somebody please give Donovan a better job.
You are such a good person. But you knew that.
Aw, thanks. I am only one of many people who do not keep a loud whistle on hand to use on these callers….
